Why I kept buying the same thing—and what I’ve learned. Multiples aren't expanding my options; they're crowding my wardrobe and crowding out my creativity.
Thanks so much Traci 🥹 - this felt kinda vulnerable. I know we’re all just learning, but sometimes it feels like these lessons should have stuck by now. Looks like I’m in great company!! Thanks again for the kind words.
Ooh, this is so good, love the practical tips. I was clearing out some of my mother's clothing for her at the weekend and found myself berating her for 3 near-identical blue and white shirt dresses, 4 tartan skirts in slight variations of green and blue etc. The problem is that I am just as bad!
Oh Julie this is so relatable! Thanks for sharing. I feel like others’ behaviours and habits are so much easier to identify and question. Meanwhile we’re often experts as rationalising and justifying our own tendencies. Recognising what we’re doing’s a key first step though, right? 😊
Thanks Xue. Glad to hear I’m not alone, haha! Those Stella’s are good!! I tried in tropical wool, many years ago, but didn’t work for me—that’s a silver lining, given my audit! Albeit there’s probably a much stronger case for multiples in different textures, right?! ;)
I'm guilty as charged of multiples in the balloon and slip skirts! You're right that there are 1-2 amongst the collection that I veer towards but I still love them all!!
Not buying multiples is something I want to get better at and yet I just bought a second pair of jeans last month in another colour 🤷♀️ Only time will tell how if that was a good idea or not.
Oh I hear you! I love indigo denim, and I like how it dresses up and down so well. I think, to your point about adding something more different, that’s where I feel I’ve maybe leaned too much into the ‘good thing’ rather than trusting I can find something that else that I’ll also love just as much, or even more. I hope you get lots of wear out of your new jeans, either way!
Thanks Sigrid, your previous comment actually really encouraged me to put pen to paper, so to speak. Multiples have so much appeal pre-purchase, for me the second thoughts (and regrets) come when I’m in too deep already. I’m with you, with trying to get better with this. Jeans can be so tricky, so I certainly know the feeling when you *finally* feel like you’ve found one that you love. I hope you’re enjoying the new jeans, in any case?!
I do like both pairs. One in a "standard" denim blue and the other a dark indigo. For me they have a different vibe, as the darker feels more polished. And it was a case of having searched for months for jeans that actually fit. But I do wonder if getting a dark pair in a different silhouette would have been better for my overall wardrobe and might have provided a different tool?? Or if the fact that the darker pair offers a polished casual option is enough of a difference??
I feel like you wrote this FOR and TO me. This was so good. I am a multiple HOARDER— & tend to hyperfixate on my loves.
Thank you for this!!!! I love reading your work, Meg!!

You crushed it ❤️
Like this quote: “At some point I’d convinced myself these multiples were smart, even risk-free buys. But lately, I’m not so sure.”
YES! SAME!
Thank you for this vulnerable wisdom! 😘
Oh that’s sweet of you - thank you - Sure felt vulnerable!

I so needed to hear this!! Thank you. For Tibi, the Stella’s are my Achilles heel. I have them in too many colors and textures!!

Great minds think alike 😂 - those balloon skirts, though. Argh!
Whoo boy! You hit the nail on the head. THANK you.
Thank you Sherri - glad I’m not the only one! 😉

Love that you expanded on the topic!
